Bear attack in Erzincan kills 144 livestock animals

A bear entered a livestock pen in Koçyatağı village, located in the Erzincan province of Turkey, breaking the lock to gain access. The attack resulted in the death of 144 small ruminants.

Local livestock breeder İsmail Mutlu reported the significant loss and has requested financial compensation and support from authorities. Following the incident, teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, along with gendarmerie, inspected the site and documented claw marks on the pen door.

Cengiz Kaya, the village headman, expressed concern regarding the increasing bear population in the region. He emphasized that because the local community relies heavily on animal husbandry for their livelihood, permanent measures are necessary to prevent wildlife from approaching residential areas and livestock facilities.
