Bear attacks and sightings reported in Sendai and Joetsu

A man in his 60s sustained facial injuries after being attacked by a bear while working at a shop in Aoba Ward, Sendai City, on the morning of August 13. Following the attack, police used firecrackers and patrol cars to maintain vigilance in the area.

In a separate incident in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, a bear measuring approximately 80 centimeters was spotted in a densely populated residential area on the evening of August 12. The Myoko Police Station and Joetsu City Hall have initiated public awareness campaigns and monitoring activities to alert local residents.
