Bear enters library in Mammoth Lakes, California

A bear entered the Mammoth Lakes library in California before it opened to the public. Security footage captured the animal walking among the bookshelves before it eventually left the premises.

The Mono County Department of Education responded to the incident with humor on social media, jokingly suggesting the bear might have been looking for a copy of ‘Winnie the Pooh’ to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the book's publication. The department also used the event to promote other titles in the library system's collection.

Wildlife experts note that bears appearing in urban, mountainous, or suburban areas of California is relatively common, often driven by the search for food.
