Bear sightings on Italy's Asiago Plateau spark concern for farmers
A young male bear, potentially identified as M123, has been roaming the Asiago Plateau and surrounding regions in Italy for several months, causing concern among local alpine farmers.
The bear, estimated to be approximately two years old, has been sighted in areas including Campanella di Gallio, Valstagna, and Cima Vezzena. It has been moving between the Trentino and Vicenza regions. While the animal is currently observed eating raspberries and does not appear to be targeting livestock at this moment, local farmers fear for their livelihoods and the future of traditional alpine farming.
Authorities, including Provincial Police Commander Gianluigi Mazzucco, are monitoring the situation. The animal was previously linked to the killing of two goats in Enego in late May. Officials are tracking its movements to determine if it is the same individual that has been active in the area since last year.
