Bear sightings reported in Fukushima and Akita prefectures

Multiple bear sightings have been reported in Japan on September 9, 2026.

In Fukushima Prefecture, two bears, each approximately one meter in length, were spotted on a road near Fureai no Mori Park in Aizumisato Town around 7:50 AM.

In Akita Prefecture, a bear measuring about one meter was seen on a riverbank embankment in Araya-machi, Akita City, at approximately 6:10 AM. The sighting occurred roughly 100 meters from nearby residential homes. Local police have patrolled the area to maintain vigilance and have issued warnings to residents.
