Bear Yavor to move from Lovech Zoo to Belitsa Bear Park

Yavor, a 22-year-old brown bear who has lived in the Lovech Zoo since 2012, is set to be transferred to the Bear Park near Belitsa. This move follows a donation agreement signed between the Blagoevgrad Municipality and the Four Paws Foundation.

The transfer aims to provide Yavor with a more natural environment. Previously confined to concrete enclosures, the bear will move to a spacious area featuring grass, water for cooling, and the ability to engage in natural behaviors such as digging. Upon arrival, Yavor will stay in a 3-decare quarantine sector equipped with a pool and an artificial den to help him acclimate to the new surroundings.

The decision was facilitated by the Blagoevgrad Municipal Council and Mayor Metodi Baykushev, following a proposal from the Four Paws Foundation to ensure the animal receives appropriate long-term care. The foundation will also provide expert recommendations to the Blagoevgrad Zoo to improve habitats for its remaining inhabitants.
