Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation to receive new community soccer pitch
The Government of Canada and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities have announced an investment to build a new free-to-use community soccer pitch for the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation in Saskatchewan. The announcement, made by Secretary of State (Sport) Adam van Koeverden, coincides with the nation’s 150th Treaty Day.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to establish 25 community soccer pitches across Canada to increase youth participation in sports. The project aligns with a $1-billion federal investment aimed at improving sports access, upgrading community facilities, and supporting athletes. Consultations will be held with the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation to ensure the new pitch meets community priorities and visions.
