Bears cause panic in Malo Buchino village, Bulgaria
Residents of Malo Buchino, Bulgaria, have been unsettled by the appearance of bears in residential yards over the weekend. The animals targeted beehives and domestic poultry, including ducks and chickens.
Local residents reported that the bears returned multiple times to search for food. One resident, Vasil, described how the animal stood on its hind legs to observe people after he and his neighbors attempted to scare it away with flashlights and objects. Another resident, Svetoslav, confirmed damage to his apiary after reviewing security footage that showed the animal appearing on both Saturday and Sunday.
The village mayor, Emil Etugov, confirmed seeing a bear near an affected property and noted that a chicken coop was also attacked. Concerns have been raised regarding the safety of local children who frequently walk near the nearby forest. While locals suspect there may be two bears—possibly a mother and cub—experts from the Ministry of Environment and Water and forestry officials have conducted inspections to monitor the situation.
