Beartooth singer Caleb Shomo addresses homophobia after coming out
Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo has spoken out about the homophobia he encountered following his decision to come out as a gay man and his subsequent divorce from his wife of 14 years.
During an appearance on ‘The Breakdown with Nath & Johnny’ podcast, the 33-year-old musician explained that his desire to live authentically and express himself freely through his appearance and art was met with significant online hostility. Shomo noted that he had previously decided not to ‘water myself down’ for others, but found that his honesty amplified the negativity from detractors.
Shomo publicly identified as a ‘proudly gay man’ via Instagram in May 2026. Following this announcement, he and Fleur Shomo filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court in July. The singer stated that the intense backlash impacted his mental health, leading him to temporarily withdraw from social media to cope with the pressure while continuing his professional obligations.
