Meta announces $1,299 VR Glasses for 2027 release

Meta has announced its next-generation Meta VR Glasses, set for a spring 2027 release with an expected price of $1,299. The device features a lightweight 100g form factor and utilizes an external computing puck containing 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite chip.

To support the new hardware, Unity has announced immediate engine support, allowing developers to create and test experiences for the glasses ahead of the launch. Several titles, including 'Ace Attorney 5 VR' and 'Supernatural', are already in development using Unity.

The new hardware will also drive significant software updates. The rhythm game Beat Saber is receiving a major update titled ‘Flux’ in spring 2027, which introduces hand-tracking gameplay where players use their hands as weapons. Additionally, Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities is scheduled for 2027, aiming to transform users' physical environments into game stages through mixed reality technology.
