Beatles' 1966 milestone marks 60th anniversary in Spain

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Beatles' breakthrough in Spain. The British group first arrived in 1963 with the single “Love Me Do” and an EP containing “From Me To You” and “Ask Me Why”. In 1964 the Spanish market received the LPs With the Beatles and ¡Qué noche la de aquel día! alongside the Spanish premiere of Richard Lester’s film *A Hard Day’s Night*.

The following year brought the releases of *Beatles for Sale* and *Help!*, as well as brief concerts at Las Ventas in Madrid and the Barcelona Monumental. The climax of the era was the Spanish launch of *Rubber Soul* and *Revolver* and the March 16, 1966 debut of the film *Help!* at Seville’s Coliseo. The author likens the Beatles’ modern‑classical blend to the 16th‑century English composer John Dowland, noting the lasting cultural resonance of that 1966 moment.
