Beatport bans fully AI-generated music from its platform

Beatport has updated its content guidelines to prohibit tracks that are fully or mostly AI-generated. Under a partnership with software firm Beatdapp, the music marketplace will use fraud-detection tools to scan its catalogue and prevent unauthorized AI content from being uploaded. When such tracks are identified, rights-holders will be notified.

Tracks that utilize AI as an assistive tool but remain majority human-made are still permitted on the platform. However, these tracks must now feature a specific tag to ensure transparency for curators and artists.

CEO Matt Gralen stated that the platform aims to empower artists and labels, distinguishing between tools that assist human creation and systems that replace it entirely. The policy change follows a survey of Beatport users, where 60% reported they would not play AI-generated music in their sets, and 77% expressed a preference for human-made music.
