Beatrice, 2, dies in Bordighera after alleged severe abuse and smoke exposure

Two‑year‑old Beatrice was found dead on 9 February in Bordighera, Italy. An autopsy ordered by the Imperia Prosecutor determined that the cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage resulting from a head injury.

Investigators reported that the child's lungs resembled those of a chronic smoker, suggesting prolonged exposure to smoke that may have been used to calm her. The parents, Manuela Aiello and Emanuel Iannuzzi, have been charged with aggravated maltreatment leading to the death of the minor.

Additional forensic findings included multiple bruises and ecchymoses on the body. Beatrice’s older sisters, aged nine and ten, were placed in a protective facility while the investigation continues.
