Beatrice Colli wins European speed climbing title
Beatrice Colli has won the European speed climbing title at the continental championships held in Laval, France. The 21-year-old Italian athlete secured the gold medal following a series of technical performances.
During the competition, Colli defeated Giulia Randi in the early stages, progressed past Aleksandra Kalucka in the quarterfinals, and overcame 2021 world champion Natalia Kalucka in the semifinals with a time of 6.45 seconds. In the final, she defeated Elizaveta Ivanova with a time of 6.55 seconds.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Colli, following a season of inconsistent results in the World Series and World Cup circuit. The achievement highlights the growing strength of the Italian women's climbing team, which also saw several athletes reach the knockout stages. In contrast, the Italian men's team saw more limited success, with Matteo Zurloni reaching the quarterfinals and defending champion Ludovico Fossali exiting in the round of 16.
