Beatriz Haddad Maia announces 2027 return to tennis

Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia has addressed her recent hiatus from the professional circuit, confirming she intends to return to competition in early 2027. Speaking at a sponsor event in São Paulo, the 30-year-old athlete explained that her decision to step away was driven by the need to prioritize her mental health.

Haddad Maia noted that the rigorous demands of professional tennis, including traveling nine months out of the year and being away from family, had taken a significant toll. She described the pressure regarding her own potential as a major factor in her recent difficulties. Since her last appearance at Wimbledon in June 2026, she has been away from competitive play.

During her break, the athlete plans to engage in various activities such as ceramics and pilates to support her well-being. She expects to resume training in December, aiming to utilize a protected ranking for her return to the tour in 2027.
