Beatriz Haddad Maia to undergo shoulder surgery and take career break
Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia has announced she will undergo surgery on her left shoulder on October 5 to address a recurring rotator cuff injury. The former top 10 player stated that the injury had become unbearable, specifically affecting her ability to serve. She expects a recovery and return to training period of approximately four months.
Haddad Maia also addressed the decision to take a break from professional competition, citing extreme mental exhaustion and the high personal cost of reaching the top of the sport. She noted that the period of inactivity has allowed her to focus on her mental and physical well-being while spending time with her family.
During her recovery, Haddad Maia plans to travel to the United States on September 24 to participate in a WTA ‘crossover into business’ MBA course designed for athletes. This move is intended to prepare her for life after professional tennis.
