Bald Range wildfire reaches 24,622 hectares near Summerland FAST-MOVING

The Bald Range wildfire, located west of Summerland, British Columbia, has grown to 24,622 hectares and remains out of control. The blaze has destroyed approximately 150 structures, including 110 in the Faulder and Meadow Valley areas and 40 within the District of Summerland. While many residents have begun returning home, 13 evacuation alerts and eight evacuation orders remain in effect, with 32 properties still under evacuation.

The BC Wildfire Service is conducting 24-hour operations using ground crews, structure protection personnel, and aviation resources, including bucketing and night-vision helicopters. Extremely dry fuel conditions and high temperatures have contributed to vigorous fire behaviour on the south and west flanks.

Separately, a smaller wildfire named Hal Creek has been reported in the Beaufort Range northwest of Port Alberni. The fire covers 0.2 hectares and is currently under investigation. While it is considered out of control, officials state it does not pose a threat to public safety or critical infrastructure. Ground crews and helicopters have been deployed to the scene.
