Beauharnois-Salaberry to adopt wind energy regulatory framework
The MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry is moving toward the final phase of its regulatory process regarding wind energy. The council of mayors is expected to adopt Regulation No. 334 during its ordinary session on September 16, 2026. This regulation modifies the revised land use plan to establish a framework for wind turbines within the territory.
The updated regulation follows a public consultation process held in the spring, which led to several modifications based on citizen feedback and government land-use orientations. Prefect Miguel Lemieux stated that the regulation aims to balance territory protection with government development goals, allowing for wind turbine implementation in specific, targeted locations while maintaining quality of life for residents.
While the regulation provides a clearer framework based on current best practices, Lemieux noted that any project must still receive support from the relevant municipality to proceed.
