Beauté Prestige Internationale sues Shein for €2.6 million

Beauté Prestige Internationale (BPI), a subsidiary of the Japanese Shiseido Group, has filed a lawsuit against the e-commerce platform Shein, seeking more than €2.6 million in damages for alleged unfair competition.

BPI, which holds exclusive licenses for luxury brands including Issey Miyake, Narciso Rodriguez, and Zadig & Voltaire, claims that Shein has been selling beauty products without authorization from its official distribution network. The company is seeking €2.1 million for reputational damage and €500,000 for commercial losses. BPI identified 37 product listings on Shein’s French website, while Shein contested this figure, stating there were only 11 offers, with only one being a direct sale.

Shein has defended its position by stating it acts as a hosting provider for third-party sellers. The Marseille court has postponed its decision on the matter until January 26. This legal action comes amid increasing regulatory and judicial scrutiny of Shein’s business practices and third-party seller activities within Europe.
