Beauty trends shift toward pH-reactive cosmetics and seasonal color

The cosmetics industry is seeing a revival of pH-reactive, color-changing makeup products, including lipsticks, balms, and foundations. This technology allows products to shift shades upon contact with the skin to create a personalized look. Brands ranging from luxury labels like Tom Ford and Charlotte Tilbury to more affordable options like Essence and Sephora Collection are participating in this trend.

Beyond lip products, the technology is expanding into complexion cosmetics. Brands such as Prime Prometics and Luminess offer foundations designed to adapt to individual skin tones using micro-beads or similar adaptive technology. The category also maintains roots in heritage brands like Tangee.

Parallel to the rise of reactive technology, beauty experts note a shift in seasonal aesthetics. Celebrity makeup artist Ash K Holm suggests a move away from the minimal ‘clean-girl’ look toward more dimensional and colorful autumn styles. This includes a focus on soft-focus skin finishes, glazed eye looks with subtle shimmer, and seasonal color palettes featuring chocolate browns, berries, and deep reds.
