Beavers Flood Allotments in Nowa Ruda, Poland

After the 2025 flood, beavers settled in the family allotment gardens (ROD "Piast") on Obozowa Street in Nowa Ruda. Their dams raise water levels, submerging plots and gnawing trees, which threatens infrastructure and crops. Gardeners have repeatedly appealed to local authorities without receiving effective assistance.

The Regional Water Management Board in Wrocław reports that staff manually remove the dams about once a month, but the steep terrain and the protected status of beavers limit the use of heavy equipment. Two beaver dams remain in the stream, and officials say the animals are legally protected, complicating further mitigation efforts.
