Bełchatów mine unions announce protest against PGE restructuring

Trade unions from the Bełchatów mine, including MZZ ‘Odkrywka’ and WZZ ‘Sierpień 80’, have announced a protest scheduled for October 5 in Katowice before the Ministry of Energy branch. The demonstration is a response to restructuring and cost-cutting plans proposed by PGE GiEK.

Workers are protesting against measures that include potential staff reductions, a lack of new investments, and limited maintenance. They are also opposing the plan to transfer employees to a new entity called the Competence Center and the potential separation of mines and power plants into different companies.

The unions are demanding a revision of the National Energy and Climate Plan, specifically calling for the launch of the Złoczew open-pit mine to stabilize the energy system until the first nuclear power plant in Choczewo is completed. They argue that abandoning conventional energy during current geopolitical conflicts threatens national energy security and sovereignty.
