Bechem poultry processing factory reaches 50% completion
President John Dramani Mahama has inspected the progress of a poultry meat and feed processing factory in Bechem, located in the Ahafo Region. The facility is a central part of a government strategy to achieve poultry self-sufficiency and decrease Ghana’s reliance on imported chicken.
The project is currently 50 percent complete, with the contractor aiming for full operational status by March 2027. All necessary equipment has been procured and is awaiting installation following the completion of building works.
Once operational, the factory will feature two processing lines—one for broilers and one for layers—with a combined capacity of 6,000 birds per hour. To maintain 24-hour operations, the plant intends to outsource from poultry farmers in the surrounding regions. The project is expected to create employment opportunities for local youth and support the broader poultry farming sector.
