Becky G advocates for Latino community and Spanglish identity
Mexican-American singer Becky G has expressed that defending the Latino community in the United States is a personal mission. Speaking during Latin Billboard Week, the Los Angeles-born artist highlighted her dual identity, describing herself as ‘200%’—both 100% Mexican and 100% American.
Becky G noted that her new album, ‘Baraja bendita’, reflects her use of ‘espanglish’ (a blend of English and Spanish). She emphasized that her platform allows her to serve as a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves, arguing that art and rights advocacy can coexist to drive social change.
The 29-year-old singer, whose real name is Rebecca Marie Gómez, previously collaborated with Carlos Santana on the track ‘Mi gran amor’ to honor migrants. She continues to promote her fifth studio album, which features tracks such as ‘Marathon’, ‘Epa’, and ‘Patrona’.
