Becky Gilmour skateboards the Wild Atlantic Way

Becky Gilmour, an adventure athlete and mental health advocate from Banbridge, Northern Ireland, became the first person to skateboard the Wild Atlantic Way. The 2,500km coastal route along the west coast of Ireland presented significant challenges, including Force 5 winds, storms, and solo camping while carrying a 15kg pack.

Gilmour stated that the motivation for her extreme adventures stemmed from coping with the grief of losing a close friend to suicide. She noted that the loss was compounded by lockdown restrictions that prevented her from attending the funeral. Following her skateboarding achievement, she has begun a new challenge: paddleboarding 1,000km solo across the width of Ireland.
