She noted that elite athletes are often referred to as ‘the man,’ citing examples such as Tom Brady, and referenced Ric Flair’s famous catchphrase, ‘To be the man, you got to beat the man.’ Lynch stated the nickname was a play on words meant to signify being elite in her field.

During the interview, the hosts jokingly questioned if the nickname was more about merchandise and entertainment than female progression, to which Lynch responded, ‘What is wrong with you people?’ Lynch adopted the ‘The Man’ persona in 2018, a move that significantly increased her popularity within the WWE.
