Břeclav forest fire occurs near former ammunition factory site

Firefighters responded to a forest fire near Břeclav, located within the Lednicko-valtický protected landscape area. The fire affected an area of approximately half a hectare and was brought under control by ten units.

The site is historically significant due to a former ammunition factory that was destroyed by the Soviet army, an event that scattered thousands of pieces of ammunition across 750 hectares. While the state cleared 250 hectares in the 1990s, pyrotechnicians have been searching the remaining area since 2015, recovering tens of thousands of items including small arms ammunition, artillery shells, grenades, and detonators.

Authorities reported that no ammunition was ignited during this specific fire and no injuries occurred.
