Břeclav invests in drones and sensors for mosquito control
The Břeclav municipal government has launched a tender for specialized equipment to combat mosquito outbreaks using a new targeted tactical approach. The procurement, valued at approximately 6.25 million CZK excluding VAT, includes drones for spraying, observation drones, sensors with remote transmission, and a helicopter spreader.
This new system aims to replace broad-area spraying with precision strikes. The strategy relies on dozens of sensors placed in local ponds and soil to monitor temperature and other data to predict mosquito breeding risks. A three-dimensional digital model of the area, including parts of the Soutok Protected Landscape Area and Austria, will be used alongside weather data to forecast potential calamities.
Field workers will use sensor data to decide when and where to intervene. Drones equipped with spray tanks will handle targeted applications, while helicopters will be utilized for larger areas if necessary. A key milestone for the system's full implementation is the completion of the Dyje flap weir in November 2026.
