Bedfordshire firefighters respond to over 180 outdoor fires

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is experiencing significant operational strain due to a surge in outdoor fires. Since the beginning of August, crews have attended more than 180 outdoor fires across the county, including 37 incidents following a government emergency alert issued on August 14.

Area commander Mark Garrett warned that despite recent cooler weather, the region remains extremely dry with a high risk of wildfires. Fire officials are urging the public to avoid all activities that could spark a fire, such as controlled burns or bonfires, to prevent devastating incidents and reduce the demand on emergency resources.
