Bedtime Hygiene Tips: Weekly Sheet Washing and Avoiding Wet Hair
Experts advise washing bed sheets at least once a week during the summer months because heat and humidity speed up the buildup of sweat, body oils, pollen and allergens. For people who sweat heavily, have allergies, keep pets in bed or use skin‑care products, more frequent washing – every three to four days – is recommended. Sheets should be laundered in warm water on a normal cycle with a pH‑neutral, enzyme‑based detergent and dried in a dryer.
Hair specialists warn that going to bed with wet hair can cause increased friction, breakage, split ends and scalp irritation, especially for colored, thin or chemically treated hair. They recommend drying hair before sleeping, using a low‑heat dryer or letting it air‑dry slightly, applying conditioner to mid‑lengths and ends, and using a wide‑tooth comb starting at the tips. Gentle handling and avoiding high‑heat tools while hair is damp also help maintain hair health.
