Beecroft Peninsula fire contained after hazard reduction burn escapes

Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews have contained a fire on the Beecroft Peninsula after a hazard reduction burn escaped containment lines on Monday, August 24. Approximately 60 volunteers and six trucks responded to the incident near Honeymoon Bay.

According to RFS acting Shoalhaven district manager Superintendent Dave Bartlett, the fire originated when north-easterly winds carried an ember from an idle Defence hazard reduction burn across a containment line at Honeymoon Bay Road. Firefighters worked through the afternoon and night to restrict the blaze to a few hectares. Once the fire was brought under control, the site was returned to Defence management.
