Beekeepers report death of 9 million bees in Argentina's Alto Valle

Beekeepers in the Alto Valle region of Argentina have reported the death of approximately 9 million bees near Mainqué, in the Río Negro coastal area. At least 440 hives, belonging to two producers, have been affected, with the number expected to rise as surveys continue.

While a definitive cause has not been confirmed, producers suspect the misuse of agrochemicals in nearby fruit farming. Potential factors include improper application timing, incorrect dosages, or spraying during high winds without notifying local beekeepers. The loss of these bees raises concerns regarding the availability of pollinators for fruit production. Producers are currently filing formal complaints through the National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality (Senasa).
