Beekeeping festivals held in Subotica and Bjelovar

Beekeeping festivals are being held in Subotica, Serbia, and Bjelovar, Croatia, to showcase local honey production and diverse apiary products.

In Subotica, the Beekeeping Days event features 18 exhibitors from various regions, including Belgrade and Sombor, with expected visitors from Hungary and Romania. While drought affected nectar secretion, producers report high-quality honey, particularly from acacia, lime, and rapeseed. New products such as honey spreads and traditional wooden storage barrels are also being presented.

In Bjelovar, honey days serve as a platform to promote domestic quality against cheaper imported alternatives. Local producers report excellent yields, reaching up to 25 kilograms per hive, with lime and acacia honey performing particularly well. Participants emphasize the importance of EU protected designations of origin for their products and offer specialized varieties, including honey infused with beetroot, pine needles, or ginger.
