Beekeeping initiatives expand through training in Peru and Chile

Beekeeping initiatives are gaining momentum in Peru and Chile through training and technical seminars aimed at improving production and sustainability.

In Sechura, Peru, the project ‘Ecological Apiculture: Productive Innovation for Access to Sustainable Markets in the Sechura Desert’ is providing training workshops for local producers. The initiative focuses on honey production, harvesting, and post-harvesting techniques. The project is a collaborative effort between the Social Fund of the Bayóvar Integral Project (FOSPIBAY), FONDOEMPLEO, and Miski Mayo. Miski Mayo is the primary contributor to FOSPIBAY, having provided S/ 587 million to date.

In Talca, Chile, the 11th Regional Apiculture Seminar will be held at the Universidad Católica del Maule. Organized by the Mesa Apícola del Maule, the event brings together experts to discuss sanitary management, climate adaptation, and technological innovation. Key topics include integrated control strategies for Varroa destructor and the transition toward organic acaricides to ensure a resilient and competitive beekeeping industry.
