Beethoven bicentenary honored by musical festivals in Italy and South Korea

Various musical institutions are planning major events to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death in 2027.

In Italy, the Rete Orpheus will host the “Beethoven 2027 – La musica oltre le barriere” event as part of its Music Week. Scheduled for May 10–15, 2027, the program includes a grand inaugural concert at the Nuovo Teatro Verdi in Brindisi. The initiative aims to bridge generations by combining symphonic traditions with contemporary musical theater, involving approximately 100 adolescents in performances featuring pop, musical theater, and movement.

In South Korea, the 15th annual Korea Piano Festival will focus its 2026 programming on Beethoven. Conducted by pianist and conductor Kim Dae-jin, the festival will feature performances of all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos, with different pianists assigned to each work to showcase diverse interpretations. The festival will also include recitals of Beethoven’s piano sonatas.
