Begur environmental groups oppose Font de la Salut urbanization

Environmental groups SOS Costa Brava and Salvem Begur are opposing a proposed modification to the General Urban Development Plan (POUM) in the Font de la Salut sector of Begur. The project aims to allow the construction of 24 new homes in an area identified as forest land.

The organizations warn that the development is located near the PEIN Muntanyes de Begur and the Natura 2000 Network, posing risks during summers marked by forest fires. They argue that the project is incompatible with current climate emergency precautions and highlight the vulnerability of municipalities surrounded by forest.

Furthermore, the groups claim that the urban planning for this sector has remained unexecuted for 23 years. They are calling on the local council to declassify the nearly ten hectares of forest to preserve the area as a natural connector rather than proceeding with urbanization.
