Beiersdorf increases recycled aluminum in NIVEA Creme tins to 95%
Beiersdorf has announced that the packaging for its NIVEA Creme blue tins will now be produced using 95% recycled aluminum. This marks an increase from the 80% recycled content used since 2024. The new packaging is expected to enter the Portuguese market starting in 2027.
Developed in collaboration with Novelis, a company specializing in aluminum lamination and recycling, the initiative involved optimizing metal alloy compositions and production processes. The goal was to increase recycled material usage without compromising the durability, strength, or design of the containers.
This transition aims to reduce the carbon footprint associated with production. Because aluminum can be recycled repeatedly without losing quality, the process consumes approximately 5% of the energy required to produce primary aluminum, potentially reducing associated carbon emissions by up to 95%. This move is part of Beiersdorf’s broader sustainability strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, a goal validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
