Beijing luxury real estate and Chinese art markets see consumer shifts

The Chinese luxury real estate and art markets are experiencing shifts in consumer behavior. In Beijing, the launch of Man He Phase II in the East Third Ring Road targets a new generation of high-net-worth individuals. Supported by CITIC, the project aims to move beyond traditional luxury by creating a social ecosystem known as the ‘Man He Family,’ designed to foster connections among global entrepreneurs, artists, and scholars.

Simultaneously, the art market is seeing a structural reversal. While high-end transactions remain cautious, there is a surge in entry-level art consumption among younger demographics. Reports indicate that Z-generation and millennial collectors are increasingly purchasing affordable works—often priced between 1,000 and 20,000 yuan—prioritizing emotional resonance and home aesthetics over long-term investment value. This trend is driving traditional intangible cultural heritage industries, such as Lingnan ceramics and embroidery, to pivot toward smaller, more affordable, and lifestyle-oriented products.
