Beijing opens robot training facility for real-world learning

A new facility in the Shijingshan district of Beijing, China, is serving as a specialized training ground for humanoid and quadruped robots to learn through real-world trial and error. Opened on September 1 at Shougang Park, the facility allows more than 10 robots of various sizes to interact with physical objects, navigate indoor tracks, and adjust their behaviors based on environmental feedback.

Unlike traditional training methods that rely on mimicking human movements, this approach emphasizes autonomous learning and adaptation. Developers from Tashan Technology are utilizing tactile sensing technology, equipping robots with an electronic 'skin' to collect physical information. This allows the machines to detect obstacles, understand their own physical limits, and build internal models of their bodies.

The project aims to move beyond simple imitation toward continuous self-learning and social cooperation. Future applications for this technology include industrial sectors such as precision assembly, production line inspections, and flexible logistics.
