Beijing student's bank accounts frozen after gold sale
A second-year student at Beijing Jiaotong University, identified as Wang, had his bank accounts frozen following a gold sale transaction. The incident began in early June 2026, when Wang listed gold coins collected by his father on the second-hand trading platform Xianyu.
After agreeing to a sale, a buyer sent a representative to collect the gold at the Oriental New World shopping center in Beijing. Following the transaction, Wang received 124,000 NDT (approximately 471 million VND). However, he soon discovered he could no longer access his funds. Hunan Provincial Police froze the funds, citing a connection to an ongoing criminal investigation.
Although police later indicated that the transaction itself showed no signs of criminal activity, all of Wang's bank accounts remain restricted. This has disrupted his studies, daily life, and internship plans. The original buyer has since ceased all communication, leaving Wang unable to clarify the identity of the sender or the nature of the suspicious funds.
