Beijing WTA 1000 tournament sees multiple Top 20 player withdrawals

The WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing faces significant absences as four players ranked in the Top 20 have withdrawn from the competition. Among those missing are world number 3 Jessica Pegula, world number 10 Marta Kostiuk, and world number 11 Amanda Anisimova, the defending champion, who is recovering from a left wrist injury.

Romanian player Sorana Cîrstea, ranked 15th, has also withdrawn due to a calf injury sustained during the US Open. Cîrstea is currently focusing on recovery with the goal of returning to competition at the Wuhan tournament, scheduled to begin on October 12. While several top players are absent, Elena Rybakina is expected to participate in the event.
