Xiangshan Forum in Beijing gathers global defense leaders

The 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum is taking place in China from September 15 to 17, focusing on the theme “Build Consensus on Stability, Advance Security Governance Together.” The event marks the 20th anniversary of the forum and has drawn approximately 100 delegations, including over 60 ministerial-level officials and military leaders from various countries and international organizations.

Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun delivered a keynote speech advocating for multilateralism and the need for international dialogue to resolve security issues. He emphasized the importance of preventing risks through historical lessons and suggested that countries should consult on the military use of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and space. Dong also warned against “hegemony, militarism and historical revisionism.”

Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang attended the forum, presenting points on strengthening the foundations of the international order. Additionally, North Korea sent a high-level delegation led by Vice Defense Minister Kim Kang-il, signaling strengthened bilateral ties following recent summits between North Korean and Chinese leadership.
