Being Heumann premieres at Toronto International Film Festival

The Apple Original Film ‘Being Heumann’ premiered as the opening night selection at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Directed by Academy Award winner Siân Heder, the film is a biographical drama based on the life of Judy Heumann, a prominent disability rights activist.

Set in 1977, the narrative depicts Heumann and a group of activists occupying a federal government building in San Francisco to demand the signing of regulations for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The protest resulted in the longest occupation of a federal building in American history. The film features Ruth Madeley in the lead role as Heumann, with Mark Ruffalo portraying government official Joseph Califano.

Following its festival debut, ‘Being Heumann’ is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on November 6, 2026, before its global premiere on Apple TV on November 13, 2026.
