Beinn Ghlas wind farm repowering approved in Scotland

Argyll and Bute Council has unanimously approved a planning application to repower the Beinn Ghlas wind farm in Taynuilt, Scotland. The project, proposed by Beaufort Wind Ltd and Nadara, involves decommissioning the existing 14-turbine site, which has a total capacity of 8.4 MW, and replacing it with seven modern, high-capacity turbines.

The new turbines will reach tip heights of approximately 150 meters. This repowering initiative is expected to increase the site's total installed capacity to between 30 and 40 MW, representing more than triple the current energy output.

In addition to increasing energy production, the developer plans to implement a circular decommissioning strategy and increase local community benefit funding. The project could provide approximately £168,000 annually to the community through benefit funds. During the planning process, the council received 26 expressions of support and three objections.
