Beira begins rehabilitation of 60-year-old road network

The Beira Municipal Council has launched a major project to rehabilitate the city's road network, targeting approximately 200 kilometers of paved roads that have not seen significant intervention for over 60 years. To increase autonomy and speed up the process, the municipality acquired its own asphalt production machine in June.

Work has commenced on Avenida 24 de Julho, specifically the section between Praça da Independência and Praça dos Professores. Infrastructure Councilor Getúlio Manhique stated that this is the first phase of a sequential plan, with a goal of completing nearly 40 kilometers this year, depending on the municipality's financial capacity.

The project includes structural repairs, such as rebuilding road bases where necessary, alongside social and environmental considerations. These include adding green spaces to address climate change, improving pedestrian circulation, and enhancing road safety.
