Beira Interior emerges as a rising tourism destination in Portugal

The Beira Interior region in Portugal is emerging as a significant tourism destination for 2026, offering an alternative to the crowded circuits of Lisbon and Porto. Located in the country's interior near the Spanish border, the region emphasizes authentic experiences through its historical villages, nature, gastronomy, and unique accommodations.

A central component of this promotion is the Beira Interior Wine Villages project, which has been recognized as Portugal's best enotourism project. The initiative uses high-altitude wines and indigenous grape varieties, such as Síria, Fonte Cal, Rufete, Marufo, and Jaen, as a primary way to explore the territory's granite soils and continental climate.

To introduce the region to the Spanish market, professional trips were organized in July for journalists and tourism operators. Coordinated by Efecto Directo and supported by the Comissão Vitivinícola Regional da Beira Interior, these itineraries covered areas including Guarda, Sertã, and Proença-a-Nova, showcasing local vineyards, historical sites like Sortelha, and regional culinary offerings.
