Beirut bookstores serve as cultural resistance amid Israeli military offensive

In Beirut, the Philosophia bookstore serves as a symbol of cultural resilience amidst ongoing conflict. Despite the devastation caused by the Israeli military offensive this spring, the establishment is working to restore its collection and return to normalcy.

Following a period of tense calm, large-scale warfare returned to Lebanon on March 2. Israeli airstrikes during a month-and-a-half period have resulted in more than 4,350 deaths and 12,320 injuries, impacting homes, lives, and numerous libraries across the country.
