Beirut Port Explosion and El Paso Walmart Shooting Mark August Historical Tragedies

On August 4 2020, nearly 3,000 tons of improperly stored ammonium nitrate detonated at the port of Beirut, Lebanon, killing more than 200 people, injuring over 7,000 and causing widespread devastation to nearby neighborhoods.

On August 3 2019, a gunman opened fire inside a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, United States, killing 23 people. The shooter told detectives he targeted “Mexicans” and had posted a manifesto online before the attack.
