Beirut stadium project faces delays over land and funding

Eight months after FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced plans to construct a modern stadium in Beirut with a capacity of 20,000 to 30,000 spectators, the project remains stalled due to a lack of land and formal funding agreements.

Key obstacles include the absence of a designated site within Beirut's municipality and the lack of a published financial agreement. While media reports have suggested a cost between $40 million and $45 million to be fully funded by FIFA, the international federation has not released an official financial decision regarding the allocation for Lebanon.

Additionally, questions remain regarding the legal ownership and management of the facility, specifically concerning the rights of the Beirut municipality, the state, and the Lebanese Football Association regarding maintenance and commercial investment.
