Beitar Jerusalem fans cause unrest in Bucharest ahead of Conference League match in Ploiești

Israeli football club Beitar Jerusalem is set to play the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League against AEK Larnaca at Ilie Oană Stadium in Ploiești, Romania. Romanian authorities, recalling a high‑risk incident last year when the club’s ultras created chaos in the capital, have announced strict security measures, including body searches, bans on alcohol and fireworks, and the possibility of denying entry to intoxicated or disorderly spectators.

On the night before the match, a large group of Beitar supporters marched through Bucharest’s Old Town and down Calea Victoriei, brandishing torches and smoke bombs and chanting anti‑Palestinian slogans. Police reported the disturbance but said the preparations would help prevent a repeat of the previous year’s disorder. The match is scheduled for 20:30 on 30 July 2026, with fans expected to travel to the stadium in Ploiești after the demonstration.
